Giphy Slack

Six years ago Slack added built-in Giphy support. So post-acquisition, Facebook will now have tracking info for all the Slack channels where this has been used. That’s cool.

GIPHY is your top source for the best & newest GIFs & Animated Stickers online. Find everything from funny GIFs, reaction GIFs, unique GIFs and more. Giphy is the largest house of gifs on the internet and their Slack integration makes sending the perfect gif easier than ever. All you have to do is type “/giphy (how you are feeling)” and the giphy integration will find the perfect gif and insert it into your Slack message. Did you know there’s a few secret Giphy commands you can use in Slack to get better reaction GIFs? Neither did I, until today when a friend that works at Slack tweeted about it.

Slack Slack offers a Giphy integration that you can install in your workspace, and you can read more about it on Giphy’s website. “Slack is committed to protecting user and company data,” said. Giphy integrations with Slack Use Zoho Flow to integrate Giphy with Slack, in atleast 5 different ways, without writing code. Automate any tasks that keep you away from what you do best.

How To Add Gifs To Slack

Update: This seems to have gotten some folks’ attention. Via email, I received the following response to my post from Brian Elliott, VP and general manager at Slack, quoted in entirety:

We’re excited for the Giphy team on the news of their acquisition.

Slack users love using Giphy, as well as tools like emojireactions and apps like Donut and Hallway. They all bring teamscloser together, especially when they’re working remotely.Allowing teams to share their personality through GIFs and enablecamaraderie at work adds to the social glue teams are looking forwhen there’s no physical water cooler, and will continue to be animportant part of the Slack experience.

As always, Slack is committed to protecting user and company data.Giphy doesn’t receive any information about users or evencompanies using the Giphy for Slack integration, and only seesSlack usage of the Giphy API in aggregate.

I also heard from a little birdie and trusted source who works at Slack, who told me:

Slack built and still owns the Giphy integration. Faq accordionaddress users’ concerns and build trust. We call theirAPI, and don’t send them identifying info about channels. (This ispretty much the opposite of how most Slack integrations work, soyour initial assumptions were reasonable.)

Slack Tips

Don’t drag & drop files into Slack – the free community Slack version has a pretty limited amount of file space. Instead, if you want to share pictures, upload them to imgur, and then copy/paste the link to the file into Slack.

When you want to show an animated gif of happy puppies (or whatever you want to show), type /giphy and then your search terms:

Giphy Slacker

Just keep in mind that some gifs may not be safe for work.

When you want to share code, click the little plus sign next to where you type things in, then click “code or text snippet.” Then, whatever you copy/paste in will be really nicely formatted. You can even choose syntax highlighting options for different languages like SQL.
